Obituary for William C. Wiedman

William Charles Wiedman, “Weedies”

Born in Southwest Philadelphia and a resident of Havertown, Dad passed away peacefully on his 90th birthday, June 22 after a long and valiant fight with Alzheimer’s. He was our beloved Dad:  Claire Couch (Bill), Diana Miller (George), Rosemarie Wiedman and Phyllis Silverstein.  He was the Devoted Pop Pop of Johnny Bistline III and Will Bistline- and his “pop pop treats” of Peppermint Patties will always be in my home. His wife of 25 years, Diane (Gairo) pre-deceased Bill in 2013.

Bill lived life to the fullest and spent the majority of his life very active in several drum and bugle corps.  His love, however, was the Archer Epler Musketeers based in Upper Darby, PA.  He joined in his youth and continued to play until his mid 80s, making lifelong friends.   He was part of three generations when his daughter, Phyllis  and grandson, Johnny performed with Archie.  Nothing made Weedies happier than playing his horn, singing with his friends, watching the “Iggles” with his Eagles Group gang and playing golf with countless (and usually better) friends.

We would like to thank his amazing care givers Rose, Advira, Annette, Robin and Algeria for their fortitude, patience and love while caring for him-most with him from the beginning.  They provided Bill friendship and compassion during his challenging years; which we know extended his quality of life and time with us.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet Weedies’ family on Friday June 26th  from 10-11am viewing and 11am service at the VRAIM Funeral Home; 66 S State Rd, Upper Darby, PA 19082.   Interment immediate following at Arlington Cemetery, where his friend and French Horn partner will play along with his Grandson, Johnny Bistline.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bill’s name  to :  Alzheimer’s Organization; alz.org/delval or mailed to 399 Market St, Suite 102, Philadelphia PA 19106 or to the Tri County Veterans (Archer Epler Musketeer VFW/AL Post), 6736 Marshall Rd., Upper Darby, PA 19082

Since we won’t be together, please raise a glass to celebrate Weedies;  his favorite was a Manhattan.  Let’s  toast the man that everyone loved.  Cheers, Weedies.  We know you’re laughing and singing with all of your buddies in that amazing Drum Corps in the sky.  As Johnny wrote, and I’m paraphrasing:  “May your golf games be endless (and perfect) and your Manhattans be bottomless.”  We love you, Dad
