Obituary for Simeon Angeles Mercado, Jr.

Simeon Angeles Mercado, Jr, age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2020. He was born on October 5, 1928, in Mexico, Pampanga, Philippines, to Simeon Hizon Mercado, Sr. (father) and Angela Leonio Angeles ( mother).He was the eldest among his nine siblings: Agustine Mercado, Jesus Mercado, Teresito Mercado, Remedios Martin, Angelita Cancio, Jose Mercado, Antonio Mercado, Nestor Mercado and Pedro Mercado.

 

Simeon, also known as Froilan, Freng, and Lolo Froy, attended high school at Pampanga High  School in San Fernando, Pampanga.  He loved to read and was very much interested in science and health, mechanics and engineering, and devotion to our Lord.  In 1960, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Banking and Finance from the Francisco Law College. Simultaneously, he also graduated in a vocational course in air conditioning and refrigeration. He worked as a financier at Sugar Refining Company of the Philippines (1954 to 1964) and as bank clerk at Citibank of Clark Airbase from 1962 to 1978.

 

Simeon married Carmelina Ramos in October of 1970. They had been married and inseparable for 24 years. Together, they have two children: Ramon Mercado and Abigail Iguban; along their four grandchildren, Sharlize, Justin, Lorenzo and Nicole. He adored his grandchildren so dearly. Simeon had devoted his life to the Lord, and also served as a Eucharistic minister at Holy Rosary Parish Church in Angeles City, Pampanga. He also loved to spend quality time with his family and friends, listening to favorite songs of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole and reading his favorite magazine,The Popular Mechanics. He loved to play the piano, even if he did not have any formal education in music. Above all, he was always seen in Church, praying and attending mass everyday. He is loved and admired by his prayerful life, living the example of true devotion to our Lord and the Blessed Mother.

 

Simeon is survived by his children, son-in- law, Derdle, grandchildren, nephews and nieces and his siblings. He is preceded by his father, mother, brothers ( Jesus, Teresito, Jose, and Pedro) and his wife, Carmelina.
