Obituary for Ruth Moitz O'Connell

O’Connell—Ruth Emma (Moitz), of Newtown Square PA, after a lengthy illness on February 6th,2020. Ruth is survived by her husband and love of her life, Jerry. They were married for 57 years. He washer soul mate and best friend. Their marriage was a true love story filled with travel, adventure,laughter and love. They truly had a wonderful life together. Ruth is survived by her children, Matt and Jacqui O’Connell, Karen O’Connell, and Joanne and BenSmith. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jason, Ryan, Rebecca, Kevin and Rachael andsisters, Cynthia Fischer, Patricia Bentzel and Margaret Young.

Ruth graduated from West Chester University, Magna Cum Laude. She worked for years at The Newtown Square Fire Dept and in banking. Her faith was very important to her. She was devoted to and served her church in varying capacities over the years; as a reader, assistant minister and as a member of the choir.

Affectionately known as “Foof” by her family and friends, Ruth loved to travel, entertain, spend timewith friends and loved her dog Jade. She also loved to work her crossword puzzles, cross stitch,dance and attend the Philly Pops. She was probably most known for her love of music and the gift of song.She was a member of the Philadelphia Larks and enjoyed traveling to nursing homes and sharing her love of music with others.

A Celebration of life service will also be held on March 21, 2020 at the Advent LutheranChurch, 1601 Green Lane, West Chester, 19382.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Ruth’s honor to Advent Lutheran Church, 1601 Green Lane West Chester PA 19382 or Willow Tree Hospice, 616 E. Cypress Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348
