Obituary for Amin Khalid Barnes

Amin Khalid Barnes was born on September 18, 1981 in Philadelphia, PA to Bernard E. Barnes Jr. and Deborah F. Oliver. He was the youngest of three children. He suddenly passed away on December 20, 2019 of natural causes. Amin received his education from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Public School System. He graduated from George Washington High School in 1999 with high honors as a member of the National Honor Society, Future Scholars, and Upward Bound Math and Science Programs. As a strong proponent of higher education, he earned his Bachelor's Degree from Washington College in 2004 where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
After graduation he moved to Alexandria, VA where he was employed by the United States Senate, Department of Human Resources as a Placement Technician for 15 years. He was a mentor and encourager of many, always pushing others to challenge themselves toward greater achievements. Amin was deeply devoted to his family, especially his mother. He loved the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. He enjoyed spending time with his family, vacationing, fine dining, watching sports and movies. He will be truly missed by family, friends and co-workers.
Amin leaves to cherish his memory: his father, Bernard Jr.; mother, Deborah; two sisters, Kimberly and Donnee’; Brother, Malik; Brother-in-law, Marc; Nephews and Nieces: Malik, Markeese, Deja, Taylor, Amir, Sanaa and Myah; Aunt, Sandra; cousins: Amira, Shira, Arthur, Tyler, Terrence, Arianna and Aidan; 5 great nieces, 4 great nephews and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, any donations made to the family will be sent to Amin’s Alma Mater to aid students in purchasing textbooks, in addition to INOVA Schar Cancer Institute for Breast Cancer- to help patients afford any expenses in their journey for treatment.
