Obituary for James W Dunn

Dr. James W. Dunn, 84, of Drexel Hill, died Tuesday at Delaware County Memorial Hospital. Born in Clifton Heights, he lived in Drexel Hill for 40 years. He was a commander in the Navy during World War II, and served as the regimental surgeon of the 22nd Marines in Okinawa. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Dr. Dunn, was a self-employed physician for 60 years before retiring in 1986. He took over his father's practice in 1929 after graduating from the University of Pennsyvlania Medical School in 1926. He graduated from Lansdowne High School in 1920. During his career, he worked at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, the Fitzgerald Division of Mercy Catholic Cernter and the Delaware County Memorial Hospital. Dr. Dunn was a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, The American Association of Family Practice and the Pediatric Society. He was a former president of the Delaware County Medical Society, One of the founding members of the Clifton Heights Rotary Club, and a member of the Lansdowne Lodge No. 711, F&AM. He is survived by his wife, Marie L. Russell Dunn; three sons, James Walter Dunn of Havertown, William Markland Dunn of Willow Grove and Robert, Broome Dunn of New York; a daughter, Roberta Cappelli of Paoli; a brother, Robert Dunn of Lansdowne; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
