Obituary for Angelina Alconcel Barrientos

Angelina “Lina” Alconcel Barrientos was born on February 26, 1945 in Manila, Philippines to Trinidad and Soledad Alconcel.  She is the sister of Solita Kangleon, Romeo Alconcel, Cecilio Alconcel, Jenny Quezon, and Victoria Alconcel.  She grew up in the Philippines and her family later moved to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1958.  Lina then moved her own family to San Francisco, California in 1977, eventually settling in the Excelsior District.

Her two sons kept her on her toes as she worked endless hours as a clerk in the Engineering Records department of Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) for over 28 years before retiring on July 1, 2008.

Lina’s strong devotion to the Catholic faith was evident as a long-time parishioner of the Church of the Epiphany and her participation in several prayer groups with whom she built life-long friendships.

Her kindness and caring went beyond her immediate family.  She truly enjoyed spending time with her friends and extended family while relishing in her passion with them for shopping and food.  She was never one to pass up a good deal when shopping or treat family and friends to food and libations at various restaurants and eateries.  Considerations for a girlish figure or for her health were often ignored as she frequently stated, “What is life if you can’t enjoy what you’re eating?!”

She was an awesome grandmother who spoiled her grandchildren excessively and was extremely proud of them.

Lina passed away peacefully at John Muir Medical Center in Concord CA, on July 21, 2019. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her sons Juanito “Jentry” and Edward “Dapo”; daughters-in-law Linh and Sakura; and her grandchildren Christian, Sebastian, Kaela, and Leia.

Thank you for the wonderful times, great food, laughter, and love.  It will be hard to forget someone who gave us so much to remember.
