Obituary for Dorotea Parangan Alog

Dorotea Parangan Alog was born on February 13, 1922 in Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. Coming from a family of farmers, getting an education was one of her biggest priority, second only to her faith in God. After disruptions in her life caused by WWII, she began attending school despite being older than her classmates and was adamant about finishing her education, refusing to marry until she met this goal. From there, she lived a career as a grade school teacher for 40 years, passing on educational values to numerous children, whom she loved as her own.

Somewhere along the lines, her late husband Emiliano Alog started courting her, stole a kiss, and showed the strength of his love by waiting six years to marry Dorotea, which she made a condition.  A year after marriage, their only child, Romulo, was born. Dorotea continued to work hard in order to put her son through school.

Dorotea decided to live in the US with Romulo and her daughter-in-law Glecy, to help raise her three grandchildren Mellart, Donna, & Reena. Additionally, she had many relatives and friends all around the US that she frequently visited, also flying back to the Philippines every year. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards, talking on the phone, and watching her Tagalog Teleseryas (Probinsyano).

Dorotea was a woman of faith, never doubting God or His plan for her. She lived a life without regret, saying the secret to long life is to never anger. She had no enemies and spread her love and generosity everywhere, no matter how she was treated. Dorotea remains a positive influence as a role model, and she will continue to live on in our collective hearts and memories.
