Obituary for Walter G. Fong

Walter G. Fong passed away on January 17, 2019 after a long and fulfilling life.  He was born on June 8, 1922 in Sacramento, CA to George and Ow Shee Fong.  The fourth child out of nine, he and his siblings held a close-knit relationship with one another.

As a young man, he attended Sacramento City College, and was later based in Yuma, AZ as a member of the WWII Army Air Force.  After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to Sacramento and worked at McClellan Air force base.  One lucky day, he met a loving woman named Johanna.  They later married, and moved to San Francisco, CA where they started a family.  He was a devoted father to four children and to their spouses:  Stewart (Lillian), Marlene (Russell), Duane (Susie), and Diane (Gary).  And many years after, he extended his love as a doting grandfather to Tiffany, Kelly, Allyson, Stephanie, Michael, Emily, Jolene, Trisha, and Courtney, and great-grandfather to Kenji.

While Walter spent many years in the grocery store and laundromat businesses, the majority of his career was dedicated to real estate- first as an agent, and then as a broker.  Walter enjoyed his retirement years traveling internationally, ballroom dancing, and socializing with his dear friends from organizations such as Sportsman's Club, Chinese American Citizens Alliance, Chung Chung Alumni Association, and as a lifetime member of the American Legion.

We will always remember him for being a kind-hearted and generous soul to all who came to know him.  Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to:  The Parkinson's Foundation, https://parkinson.org/
