Blake Beatty, Local Lumberman Dies Suddenly

An Upper Darby Businessman for 44 years, Blake H. Beatty, 79, died suddenly last Thursday in Lankanau Hospital following a heart attack in his home at 26 E. Greenwood Ave., Lansdowne. He was president and co-owner of Beatty Lumber Co. at State Rd. and Pennsylvania Railroad, Upper Darby, which he established 44 years ago.

Born in Newport Pa., he had lived in Lansdowne 44 years and had served as Sunday School superintendant, teacher, and elder of the 1st Prebyterian Church of Lansdowne where he had been a member of the Mens Class since moving to Lansdowne.

A former member of the Union League, he was a 50 year member of Lansdowne Lodge 711, F and AM; and member of Rolling Green Golf Club, the Middle Atlantic Lumberman's Assn. and the Lumberman's Exchange. He was particularly proud of being named Honorary Sachem of the Community Y Indian Guide Tribe.

Survivors are his son, B. Harper Jr, two grandchildren and two brothers.

Services Monday afternoon in the church were followed by interment in Arlington Cemtery.
