Obituary for Eleanor M. Gehringer

Eleanor M. (Wentzel) Gehringer, 86, of Fleetwood, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in Kutztown Manor, Inc. She was the loving wife of Herbert C. Gehringer, Jr., whom she married on March 24, 1951. Born in Oley Township, Eleanor was a daughter of the late Floyd E. and Mabel B. (Prutzman) Wentzel. Mrs. Gehringer was a member of Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, Fleetwood (Dryville), and was a 1950 graduate of Oley Valley High School.

She was employed by the former Nitronics, Kutztown, but for most of her life, she was a homemaker. Eleanor enjoyed counted cross stitch and was a member of the neighborhood card club in Dryville. Her family would like to extend a sincere "Thank You" to the staff at Kutztown Manor and Berks Visiting Nurses Assn., for their excellent care shown towards Eleanor during her time at the nursing home.

In addition to her husband of 67 years, Herbert, Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Kim D. (Gehringer), wife of Jeffrey C. Hollenbach, Kutztown; two grandchildren, Cathy Hollenbach, partner of Justin Ruth and Kelsey (Hollenbach), wife of Michael Ulrich; and four great-grandchildren, Briarlynn, Sierra Mae, Bella Rae, and Charlotte LeAnn; sister, Arlene (Wentzel) Geisler, Boyertown; sister-in-law, Doris Wentzel, Earl Twp; and several nieces and nephews. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, a son, who died in infancy, sister, Mary Jane Wentzel, and two brothers, LeRoy and Charles Wentzel.

A funeral service to celebrate Eleanor's life will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, 16 Fleetwood Road, Fleetwood (Dryville), with her Pastor, Reverend Cheryl F. Meinschein officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Dryville. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the church.
