Obituary for Donald Alton Seccombe Sr.

Donald Alton Seccombe Sr. age 90, husband of 71 years to Fern Miller Seccombe of Ansonia CT, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday October 31th. Born in Ansonia, CT on November 27, 1927, son of the late Lionel H. Seccombe Sr. and Alta Mae Tomlinson Seccombe and adopted mother Louisa Burne Seccombe, Donald was a lifelong resident of Ansonia with over 70 years of local community service. He was a life member and past captain of Eagle Hose Hook & Ladder Co. #6, the oldest past fire chief in Ansonia. He was past president of Valley Fire Chiefs and member of the New Haven County Fire Emergency Plan Inc., member of CT State Firefighters Irregulars Assoc., and member of The CT State Fire Chiefs Assoc. Donald was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Navy SEABEES in Okinawa, Japan. He went on to become owner and president of Seccombe Cleaners in Ansonia. He was a longtime member of The First Congregational Church in Ansonia and a life member of The King Hiram Masonic Lodge in Shelton. In addition to his wife Fern, Donald is survived by his children Alta S. Seccombe Jr. and brothers Lionel H. and Charles T. Seccombe. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia.
