Obituary for Richard C. Herman

Richard C. Herman, 82, of Longswamp Township, died Monday, October 29, 2018, in The Lutheran Home at Topton, where he was a resident since February, 2015. He was the widower of Diane M. (DeLong) Herman, who died September 21, 2011. Born in Rockland Township, he was a son of the late Russell and Phoebe (Kenney) Herman. Richard was a graduate of Kutztown Area High School. He was employed at Wilmer R. Schultz Inc, General Contracting, Emmaus, for over 30 years as a carpenter, until his retirement. He was a member of Carpenter's Union, Local 600. He was a skilled hunter, fisherman, and a champion trap shooter for the Topton Gun Club. He was a member of the Topton American Legion, and Longswamp and Alburtis Gun Clubs.

Richard is survived by sons, Darrel R., husband of Sheila A. (Kline) Herman, Mertztown, Bruce D., husband of Cathy (Terleski) Herman, Mertztown, and Brian S., husband of, Marnie (Marquardt) Herman, Pleasant Gap, Centre County; brothers, Carl and his wife Sylvia Herman and Robert and his wife Pearl Herman. There are also four grandchildren, Alison M. (Herman), wife of James Botti, Brad D. Herman, Brandon D. Herman, Tyler B. Herman; three step grandchildren, Kelly A. (Green) wife of Nicholas Robidas; Kelsey Boyer; and Katlyn (Boyer), husband of Matt Sostak; three great grandchildren, Owen T. RobidasElliana Herman; and Teagyn Herman. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Elouise (Herman) Miller.

A funeral service to celebrate Richard's life will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. from Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 25 East Weis Street, Topton, PA, with Reverend Dr. Katherine E. Brearly officiating. Burial will follow in Longswamp Union Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Friday evening, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
