Obituary for Marie A. Moyer

Marie A. (Heydt) Moyer, of Kutztown, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 26, 2018 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, after a short illness, at the age of 85. She was the loving wife of Charles R. Moyer. Born in Wescosville, PA, on May 24, 1933, Marie was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Esther Heydt. She graduated from Kutztown Area High School in 1951. Marie was employed as a Secretary for the former Caloric Corporation, Topton, for two years, the former Wenton Shoe Factory, Kutztown, for eight years, and Kutztown University, working as a Secretary in the Library Science Department for 28 years, retiring in 1996.

Upon her retirement that same year, she became an office volunteer for the former Betsy King Classic Golf Tournament, for eight years, where she proudly received the Volunteer of the Year Award. Marie was a member of the Lioness Club in Kutztown, where she served as a generous and dedicated individual, being engaged with the people in the Kutztown community. She attended Zion's Union Church in Maxatawny throughout her childhood, and later became an active member of Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kutztown.

Marie and her husband, Charles, were quite active throughout their 63 years of marriage. They especially enjoyed golfing together or with family and friends locally, and in Florida; snowmobiling, attending local dances, and going on bus trips, where they visited every state except Oregon. They also liked traveling to visit with their granddaughters living in Washington, Tennessee and Florida, and spent many family vacations in Walt Disney World and Ocean City, Maryland. Attending Penn State games, family picnics and hosting their annual New Year's Eve party were also some of Marie's favorite pastimes.

In addition to her husband, Charles, Marie is survived by her daughter Stephanie (Moyer), wife of Gary Derstine, Kutztown; granddaughters, Brandi Derstine, Kissimmee, FL, and Linzi (Derstine), wife of Dr. Shaun Gill, Emmaus; and two great-granddaughters, Alivia and Ellison Gill. Marie is also survived by a sister, Edna (Heydt), wife of Clair Kramer, and a brother, Vicar Jeremiah Heydt, and his wife, Tina, all of Kutztown.

A funeral service to celebrate Marie's life will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 E. Main Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Mary Ann Hamm officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Maxatawny Union Cemetery, Kutztown, with her brother, Vicar Jeremiah Heydt officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday evening, July 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, and again on Wednesday morning, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the church.
