Obituary for George H. Abel Jr.
On Friday, July 20th 2018 another member of the Greatest Generation joined his family and comrades in Heaven. George H. Abel, Jr., son of George H. Abel, Sr. and Elizabeth Carrie (Bethel) Abel; aged 96; who survived the difficulties of the Great Depression, witnessed the horrors of World War II as a bomber pilot in the South Pacific, passed quietly from this life and into the next.
He is survived by his daughters Nancy Lloyd and Anne Shumaker, grandsons Andy Shumaker, David Lloyd and Casey Shumaker, and two great-grand children. He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley (Sulser) Abel, his brothers William B. Abel and John G. Abel, and his grandson John E. Lloyd.
An avid and skilled gardener, a lover of food and his Alma Mater Muhlenberg College, Abel’s sense of humor, sense of duty, and his keen mind, meticulous eye for detail, nature and family cannot be replaced.
A private interment will be held at Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, PA.
