Obituary for Martin Azucena Panopio
Martin Panopio's family hailed from Bauan, Batangas, Philippines . He was the second child in a family of ten children, four
girls and six boys. He started working at a very early age to help his parents raise his younger brothers and sisters.
In college he worked as a dental assistant to put himself through school. He earned a degree in accounting from the
University of the East. After graduation, he joined the Consolidated Bank and Trust Company, otherwise know as
SolidBank. He was eventually assigned to the bank's Auditing Department which allowed him the opportunity to travel to
areas all over the Philippines where SolidBank had branches. Working full-time at SolidBank he was able to help his
parents send his younger siblings to school.
In 1980 he migrated to the United States. He married his longtime girlfriend Leni and they had two sons,
Marc Vincent and David Matthew. In San Francisco, Martin worked for an engineering company and later a
freight company before moving to Las Vegas in 2006. In Las Vegas he worked for a well-known superstore and
retired in 2011.
Martin enjoyed going on long walks with their dogs, Rocky and Snickers, working in the backyard, watching sports
and betting on his favorite San Francisco sports teams: Warriors, Giants, and Forty-Niners. Even when he moved
to Las Vegas, his heart remained in the Bay Area.
Martin and his sons enjoyed playing jokes on and teasing each other. They will miss the camaraderie with their dad.
He loved playing bingo, keno and slot machines but he was a smart player and always knew when to stop.
His fellow bingo players will miss him and so will the ladies at the bingo and keno counters.
