Obituary for Daryl R. Hassler

Daryl R. "Papa Dude" Hassler, 67, of Longswamp Township, died suddenly Tuesday, May 29, 2018, after being stricken in his home.  He was the husband of Sandra A. (Keim) Hassler, whom he married April 3, 1971.  Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Earl B. and Mildred A. (Leiby) Hassler.  Daryl honorably and faithfully served his country as a specialist, fourth class, in the United States Army with service during the Vietnam War.  He was first employed as a tank liner at Atlas Minerals & Chemicals, Mertztown; then worked over 40 years as a fork lift operator at Samuel Adams Brewery, Fogelsville, until his retirement in 2015. Daryl was a member of Ray A. Master Post 217 American Legion, Topton, and Lyons Fire Company, Lyon Station.

In addition to his wife of 47 years, Sandra, Daryl is survived by daughters, Jennifer R. (Hassler) Carl, Kutztown; Kimberley A. (Hassler) wife of Bret A. Miller, Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County; and Gwendolyn D. Hassler, at home.  Other survivors include a brother, Jay E. husband of Janice M. (Lesher) Hassler, Kutztown.  There are five grandchildren: Samantha N. Boyer-Hassler, Kylea D. Smith, Shane E. Carl, Meghan A. Miller and Brooke A. Miller.  There is also a great grandson, Brantley G. Merkel. Daryl's four-legged companions Charlie and Cato will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents, Daryl was predeceased by a brother Barrie L. Hassler.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Home, 25 East Weis Street, Topton.  Interment with Military Honors provided by Ray A. Master Post 217 American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, and Pennsylvania Military Honors, Fort Indiantown Gap, in Topton Union Cemetery, Topton.  Friends may call Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
