Obituary for Lorenzo Baclayo Macasaet

Lorenzo B. Macasaet was born in November 9, 1929 in Catbalogan Samar Philippines to Petronila Macasaet and Serafin Macasaet. Lorenzo’s father Serafin served as a treasurer for the Phillipine Commonwealth and was often assigned to different locations within the Phillipines. As a result, Lorenzo spent most of his childhood meeting new people and experiencing the richness of what the Phillipine subcultures have to offer. Lorenzo’s family then settled in Manila where he was able to continue his studies in the University of Santo Thomas. At the age of eighteen, when Lorenzo witnessed the invasion of the Phillipines by the Japanese during World War II, Lorenzo joined the Military to serve his country. He enlisted with the US army which at that time was aiding the Phillipines to fight against the Japanese. After his military training, Lorenzo was sent to the war in Okinawa, Japan where he experienced the horridness of war. When the war ended, Lorenzo was able to come back in the Phillipines safely. On June 1, 1977 Lorenzo married Teresita H. Fideles and was blessed with six children. From then on, each moment of Lorenzo’s life was spent in gratitude and appreciation. In his stories, he would often emphasize faith and the power of prayer as the foundation of his strength to endure life’s challenges. In each moment of his life, he had grasped and illuminated its goodness by doing what he loved the most. You would often see or hear Lorenzo singing, exploring the streets of every city he may visit, reading educational magazines and books and collecting them, watching the news and enjoying conversations with anyone he would meet. Last but not the least, from time to time you would see him sitting down in deep thought looking outside a window whispering, “The world is still at peace, you can hear the birds singing”. Lorenzo lived a full life and shared all that he had. Those who loved him will forever treasure the memories he had left behind. He leaves his legacy to his loving children, grandchildren, friends and relatives.

“Life is not a bed of roses. It is not always pleasant. Do not be afraid, God is with you”
