Obituary for Lee Warren Hilbert

Lee Warren Hilbert, 80, of Lyon Station, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21, 2018 in his residence. He was the loving husband of Deanna M. (Ringler) Hilbert, whom he married on December 17, 1960. Born in Lyons, Lee was a son of the late Freemont P. and Carrie M. (Miller) Hilbert. He was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bowers, and a 1955 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. Lee honorably and faithfully served his country in the United States Navy, where he was a crew member onboard the U.S.S. Cutlass. Lee was employed by Kutztown Publishing Company from 1961 until 1998, retiring as the Plant Manager. In his earlier years, he worked as a pinsetter at Lyons Fire Company, during their bowling events. Lee was a member and Past President of Kutztown Lions Club; a member and former President and Treasurer of  Lyons Fire Company, and a former Mayor of Lyons in the 1970's. Lee enjoyed bowling, playing and umpiring softball, hunting, fishing and golfing, where he had a hole-in-one in a local tournament.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Deanna, Lee is survived by his four children, Stephanie A. (Hilbert), wife of Ken D. Schwoyer, Lyons, Darryl M., husband of Lisa M. (Beard) Hilbert, Mertztown, Darin L., husband of Barbara J. (Wolf) Hilbert, Blandon, and Shelly L. (Hilbert), wife of Mark I. Lesher, Hamburg; sister, Miriam K. (Hilbert), widow of Mark Reed, Topton; brother, Karl F., husband of Janet L. (Ringler) Hilbert, Lyons; and eight grandchildren. Lee was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Roberta A. (Hilbert) Schukraft and Jean A. (Hilbert) Becker; and a brother, John F. Hilbert.

A memorial service to celebrate Lee's life will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018, also his 81st Birthday, at 11:00 a.m. in Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, 550 Fleetwood Road, Bowers, PA, with Reverend Elizabeth A. Haines officiating. Military honors provided by The United States Navy will follow the service in the church. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday morning from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will be private.
