Obituary for Nicholas Randolph Burke


 Nicholas Randolph Burke died May 7, 2017 of complications following cardiac surgery in Washington, D.C. Born on October 6, 1942 in New York City, the son of John Randolph Burke and the former Phyllis Brewster of New York City, he was educated at St. Paul's School, Concord, N.H., served three years in the United States Marine Corps and was graduated from Harvard College in 1968. He was principally employed as a speechwriter for various individuals and organizations in Washington, D.C. and greatly enjoyed a long retirement. He is survived by his wife, the former Claire J.G. Gardiner of Boston; his son, James Revere Burke, and his wife, Stephanie; a grandson, Owen Gabriel Burke; and a granddaughter, Sophie Madeleine Burke. There will be a funeral service at 1:00 PM at St. David's Episcopal Church, 5150 Macomb Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20016, on Thursday, June 15, 2017. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to Doctors Without Borders USA, PO Box 5030, Hagerstown MD 21741-5030 would be greatly appreciated.
