Obituary for Elaine Wit

WIT,  Elaine (nee Sickles) 88, of Elkins Park, and later, Gwynedd Estates, in Lower Gwynedd Township, PA, died on Sunday, April 15, 2018. She was a loving mother, a nursery school teacher, active volunteer, an entrepreneur and loved to help people. She was on the board of RS Sisterhood, a member of PTA’s and PTO’s throughout her children’s high schoolyears, on the board and an officer of the Elkins Park Free Library, and a member of the Alpha Auxiliary and Vice President of Montgomery County Mental Health in Norristown, PA.

With Louise Krekstein, she started CulTour, a travel company in Elkins Park. Elaine always loved to travel and learn. She was with the Myrtilla Questers for over 40 years and the spent the last ten years as President.

Elaine is predeceased by her husband, Phillip Bassist, and her brother, Alan Sickles. She is survived by her children, Steven (Donna Gatewood) and Carol (Larry Yakulis). Funeral service with be held at Congregation Kol Ami, 8201 High School Rd, Elkins Park, PA 19027, at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17th. Interment immediately following at Adath Jeshurun Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA.

 Memorial Contributions in Elaine’s name may be made to Montgomery County Mental Health, 1430 DeKalb St., Norristown, PA 19401 or Congregation Kol Ami, Rabbis Discretionary Fund, 8201 High School Rd., Elkins Park, PA 19027. 

Shiva will be observed at Steven and Donna’s home in Elkins Park, Tuesday and Wednesday at 6 p.m., with a service at 7 p.m. There will also be a community gathering at the late residence at Gwynedd Estates, on Thursday from 1-2:30 p.m.
