Obituary for Laura B. Moss

Laura Beatrice (Chaney) Walker Moss Laura Beatrice (Chaney) Walker Moss, 76, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2018. She was born March 29, 1941 to the now late Percy and Nesia Chaney in Cuba, Alabama. She and her family moved to Akron, Ohio in October of 1966. She was hired by the Akron Public School System where she served as a teacher''s assistant and tutor for 33 years, retiring in June of 2002 for health reasons. Laura began a second career as the owner of B-Moss Catering. From wedding receptions to special events to her own dining table, everyone loved her food! She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Israelite Baptist Church after moving to Akron, where she enjoyed working for the Lord as President of the Ushers Board, the Willing Workers Board, and Sunday School Treasurer. She joined the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in 1997 after marrying Pastor Isaiah Moss. She continued working for the Lord, forming the Ladies League known as the Pilgrim Rest Sisterhood. She was a member of the New Era Baptist District Association where she served in many capacities, including C.O.C.E. and as secretary of the Ministers and Deacons Wives Council. She then moved up to Vice President, then President. At Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, she also served as Missionary President and Superintendent of Sunday School. She joined Friendship Baptist Church where she served as the Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, Vice President of the Missionary Board, and President of Pastor''s Aid. In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Isaiah Moss; siblings, John Chaney, Minnie Sanders, and Mary Ella Chaney; and stepson, Isaiah Moss Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory, her five daughters, Amy (Napoleon) Burt, Laura Ann (Patrick) Fulp, Ruby Lee Walker, Bernice Walker, Janet (Ray) Smith; and their father, Abraham Walker; stepdaughter, Esther (Tarik) Rahim; siblings, Emma Wilson, Christine (Lewis) Smith, Purvis (Christine) Chaney, and Geneva Butler; grandchildren, Justin Daniel Burt, Remington Lee Walker, Sarah Anne Burt, and Rylee Walker; step-grandchildren, Justin Rahim and Elizabeth Rahim; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 1 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, with Pastor Sylvester Beans officiating.
