Emil A., 93 of Springfield, PA and Cape May, NJ died Feb 20, 2018.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, he was a graduate of John Bartram High School. A longtime resident of Springfield, Emil was A U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and awarded the Purple Heart. He served as a Radio Operator First Class.

After 38 years, he retired from Bell Atlantic (Verizon) as a manager which gave him more time to enjoy deep sea fishing, crabbing and cooking. Time spent with family and friends was most precious, making Christmas cookies, serving as bartender or just spending time with them in Cape May. Those many happy hours will long be remembered by his loving family. It should also be noted that he was proud of his Norwegian heritage and passed that along to the next generations.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Roberta (nee Coulter); his loving children, Bob Johannessen (Rosemary) and Linda Elias; grandchildren, Wade Johannessen (Caleb Canning), Blair Johannessen and Shana (Rich) Albuquerque;  Great-grandchildren  Riley Rose and Lorelei; brother Harold (Isabel), a special sister-in-law Betty Jackson, many nieces, nephews and his Granddog, Mollie.  Emil was predeceased by his parents, Egill and Borghild Johannessen; his brother, William and his life-long friend, Ed Jackson.

Visitation will be 10AM Saturday. His Funeral Service begins at 11AM Saturday February 24th at the  Toppitzer Funeral Home, 2900 State Road, Drexel Hill, PA.

Interment- Arlington Cemetery, 2900 State Road, Drexel Hill.
