Obituary for Joan Sweeney

SWEENEY, Joan (nee Cordner), 80, of Havertown, PA, died Wednesday, February 7, 2018. She attended West Philadelphia High School and worked various jobs including being a line worker at Swell Bubblegum Factory, in food preparation at White Manor Country Club, and as a housekeeper at Villanova University, but the last 26 years of her career was spent as “Mom Mom”, taking care of her grandchildren so her children could work. She was a strong, but kind, gentle soul, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She is pre-deceased by her husband, William A., only brother, Rev. Arthur Cordner, and daughter in-law, Nancy. She is survived by her children: Joan C. Galli (Richard Galli), William A., III, and Edward F. (Kim); grandchildren: Michael V. (Chrissy Shelly), William A., IV (Michele Berry), Tina Marie (Sean Murray), Kevin R., Jonathan E. (Jenna), Danielle Nicole, and Jacob Keenan; great grandchildren: William A., V, Michael V., Jr., Angelina, and Alex; nephews: Donald Cordner and Wesley Cordner; niece, Rebecca Cordner-Edwards, and sister in-law, Kathy Cordner. Visitation at 10 a.m., funeral service at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 17th, at the Chapel of Peace at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA  19004. Burial immediately following at West Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s name to Providence Animal Shelter (formerly the SPCA of Delaware County), 555 Sandy Bank Rd., Media, PA 19063
