Obituary for Mark Wayne Borgman

Mark Wayne Borgman, 59, of Mertztown, passed away on Friday evening, January 19, 2018 in his residence. He was the loving husband of Sandra Lynn (Werkheiser) Borgman, whom he married on September 12, 1987 in Ziegel's Union Church, Breinigsville. Born in Allentown, Mark was a son of the late Dr. George J. Borgman and Norma I. (Dietrich) Borgman. He was a 1976 graduate of William Allen High School, Allentown. Mark was employed as a Sales Associate for over 20 years, working at the former Hess's Department Store, Allentown and The Bon-Ton, at South Mall in Emmaus.

Mark was an expert on rare and collectible books, and enjoyed collecting and restoring them. An amateur archaeologist, Mark had an extensive collection of spear and arrowheads that he harvested from local fields in Berks County. Astronomy was also a favorite pastime of Mark's. He assisted the U.S. Government with identifying stars and constellations.

In his free time, Mark, who had a good eye for things, was an antique dealer and collector. He and his wife Sandy, enjoyed going for walks together, hiking and watching their collection of black and white movies. He was a member  of the Pennsylvania Archaeological Society, the Longswamp Township Historical Society, and volunteered his time at The Sanctuary at Haafsville, having a large heart for animals, especially buffalo (bison).

In addition to his wife of 30 years, Sandy, Mark is survived by his two children, Lindsey A. Borgman, fiancé of Patrick Reid, Blandon and Daniel C. Borgman, fiancé of Kyrstin Kester, Center Valley; one grandson, Peter T. Borgman; two sisters, Kim I. (Borgman), wife of Harley Newman, Lynnport and Janice E. (Borgman), widow of Scott McCoy, Reading; and a brother, George D. "Rick," husband of Roberta Borgman, Whitehall.

A Memorial Gathering to celebrate and remember Mark's life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Ray A. Master, Post 217, American Legion Banquet Hall, 133 Centre Avenue, Topton, PA, where refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome to attend.
