Obituary for Robert E. Zuraw

Robert E. Zuraw, age 86, beloved husband of the late Mary Donahue Zuraw and resident of Ansonia, passed away peacefully on Jan. 12, 2018. He was born in Derby , Sept. 23, 1931, son of the late Michael and Stella (Liska) Zuraw. Robert was a longtime superintendent for the Ansonia Public Schools until his retirement in 1991. He was a U.S. Army veteran, member of the American Legion Post #50, and a devoted member of The Derby Lodge of Elks. He is survived by his two sons, Michael Zuraw and wife Christine of Mesa, AZ, Robert P. Zuraw of Ansonia, three daughters Essie Zuraw-Burns and husband Ted of Chepachet, RI, Cathy Zuraw-Conrad and husband Mark of Fairfield, and Barbara “Bub” Zuraw and husband Peter Friedland of Mansfield Center CT., grandchildren, Cailie and Colin Burns, Monica, Paige and Jakob Zuraw, Ayla, Jediah and Levi ZurawFriedland, great granddaughter Savannah Burns, sister-in-law Nancy Donahue, loving niece Lisa King and husband Jim and numerous caring nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by his sister Estelle Menillo. Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (www.jenkinsking.com) A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. (DIRECTLY) at The Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. Burial will follow with military honors accorded in Pine Grove Cemetery.
