Obituary for Ruth E. Hertzog

Ruth E. (Ziegler) Hertzog, 96, formerly of Mertztown, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in The Lutheran Home at Topton, Longswamp Township.  She was the widow of William D. Hertzog, who died January 21, 2004.  Born in Trexlertown, Lehigh County, she was a daughter of the late Luther V. and Ivie J. (Ziegler) Ziegler.  Mrs. Hertzog was a member of Longswamp United Church of Christ, Mertztown. Ruth worked for a short period of time as a sewing machine operator for the former Royal Manufacturing Co., Alburtis, then devoted her time to being a homemaker.  Her joy in life was her family... being a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She also enjoyed camping, gardening and canning her harvest.  She was a member of the former Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mertztown.

Ruth is survived by a daughter, Sandra A. (Hertzog) wife of Joel A. Miller, Alburtis; son, Joseph L. husband of Lise P. (Dellicker) Hertzog, Wyomissing.  Other survivors include a sister, Marian E. (Ziegler) wife of John P. Conrad, Bowers.  There are three grandchildren, Bret A. Miller, Joshua J. Hertzog, and Aaron J. Hertzog; six great grandchildren, Meghan A. Miller, Brooke A. Miller, Trevor J. Hertzog, Ashlee J. Hertzog, Devon L. Hertzog, and  Gavin S. Hertzog.  In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by a son William D. Hertzog, II, who died October 18, 2016.

A private service to celebrate the life of Ruth E. Hertzog will be held at the convenience of the family.  Inurnment in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown, will also be held privately.  There are no public calling hours.
