Obituary for Owney DeMaro

Owney J. DeMaro Sr., age 87, peacefully entered into eternal rest on November 6, 2017, at Shady Knoll Health Care in Seymour. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia Dufresne DeGennaro DeMaro. Mr. DeMaro was born in Derby on Nov. 19, 1929, son of the late Joseph and Dorothy Wilson D'Amaro. A resident of the Derby community for most of his life, he was employed by the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation Highway Department for thirty years and later in the Maintenance Department for the Derby Board of Education, until his retirement. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Armyduring the Korean Conflict. Owney was a former member of the CT Hurricanes Drum & Bugle Corp., and a member of the Central Subalpi Club in Ansonia. He leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Owney J. DeMaro Jr. of Derby and Edward DeMaro of Seymour, daughters, Dani DeGennaro of Dallas, TX and Deneen DeGennaro of New Haven, a brother, Joseph D'Amaro (Philomena) of Shelton, grandchildren, Desiree DeGennaro, Kevin, Megan and Gabrielle DeMaro and Austin Becon, sisters-in-law, Barbara Alcutt of Ansonia, Joan Gittings of Derby and Loretta Dufresne of SC, and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday November 9, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAROSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 7:00 p.m., a funeral service in celebration of Owney's life will take place with Rev. James Wegner, officiating, followed by U.S. Army military honors. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia.
