Obituary for Dorothy L. Lappen

1922-2017 Dorothy L. Lappen, age 95, of Mechanicsburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, December 11, 2017, at her residence.

She was born May 27, 1922, in Aldan, PA, to the late Edmund D. and Ethel E. (Crowley) Lear and was the widow of Samuel S. Lappen, Jr., who died May 10, 1999. Dorothy was a retired secretary to the principal of the Margaret B. Harris Elementary School in Collingdale, PA. She was a member of Grace Reformed Episcopal Church, Collingdale, Chapel by the Sea, Ocean City, NJ, and The Meeting House, Carlisle, PA. She was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Carlisle Rotary Club and was nationally recognized for her contribution of handmade baby hats and sweaters.

She is survived by: her children, Carole (husband John) Kustafik of Chester Springs, PA, and Barbara (husband William, Col. Ret.) Blankmeyer of Mechanicsburg and Samuel E. (wife Maria) Lappen of Ridley, PA; son-in-law, Francis Clemens, Chadds Ford, PA; sister-in-law, Clara May “Chad” Lear of Wallingford, PA; seven grandchildren, Lisa Ann McKeown, Jon Kustafik, William J. Blankmeyer III, Wendy M. Kustafik, Brian C. Blankmeyer, Samuel S. Lappen and Stephanie M. Lappen; and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ann Clemens and two brothers, John and Mark Lear.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at The Meeting House-Carlisle Campus, 1155 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle, PA, with Rev. Josh Crain officiating.

Burial will be at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA, at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. William Bateman officiating. There will be a viewing at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
