Obituary for Mildred E Widmyer

Mildred E. Widmyer, 101, departed this earth to take her place among the Angels of God at The Lutheran Home at Topton on October 26, 2017. She resided at the Topton Home for 17 years while always receiving exceptional care.

She was born January 16, 1916 in Reading, a daughter of the late William Elias and Jennie (Hinkle) Widmyer.  Mildred had led a long and productive life of serving the Lutheran Church of America in many capacities.  Her early years were spent in training at the Deaconess House in Baltimore, Maryland, and her last assignment was as a Case Worker at the Kencrest Home for Handicapped Children in Phoenixville.  Mildred completed a Bachelor's Degree at Muhlenberg College, Allentown, and a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Mildred loved all cats and always had a favorite in her home until she was unable to care for one.  Even then she borrowed cats to feed from her neighbors. She had joyous times with fellow workers of the Church and in the company of dear friends and family members. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her brother Ralph who preceded her in death in 2000. Other family members she particularly enjoyed were her nephew William L. Widmyer and her great niece and nephew, Stephanie (Widmyer) Young and Gregory William Widmyer.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017, at 1:00 PM in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 25 East Weis Street, Topton, with Reverend Dr. Coleen G. Kristula, Chaplain of The Lutheran Home at Topton, officiating. Inurnment in Alsace Cemetery, Reading.  Relatives and friends may call from12:30 to 1:00 PM in the funeral home.
