Obituary for Shirby Strang

Shirby E. Strang, a 77 year old resident of Derby, passed away Feb. 1, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 25, 1939 in Derby, daughter of the late Robert& Ellen Huggins Richter. Shirby worked as a Home Health Services coordinator for Masonicare in Wallingford. She was Director and President of Orange Wood West Condo Association. She was also a member of The First United Methodist Church in Ansonia and was a former director & coach the Girls’ Biddy Basketball League in Ansonia. Shirby was an avid golfer and Kayaker and followed The N.Y. Giants & UCONN Women’s Basketball teams. She was predeceased by siblings Marcia and Robert Richter Jr. She is survived by her son Jay Strang of Seymour, daughter Wendie Hames (Robert) of Beacon Falls, brother William Richter of Oxford, sister Karen Coppola of Orange, 6 grandchildren Kristi, Kara, Kori & Bobby Hames and Tyler & Colin Strang and several nieces & nephews. Friends may call on Friday, (TODAY) Feb. 3 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, CT. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at The First United Methodist Church, 47 Franklin St. Ansonia, CT. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to her church.
