Obituary for Tamara Elaine Maddox

Tamara Elaine Maddox, affectionately known as “Tami”, age 53, a long-time resident of Falls Church, VA, passed away from cancer on Monday, June 29, 2020.  This special young lady was born at the Alexandria Hospital on July 6, 1966 to Pamela Tyler Galyean and William Fred Maddox.

Tami is survived by her mother, Pamela Galyean, and her step-father, Kenneth Galyean of Alexandria, VA; her aunt, Patricia Tyler of Lorton, VA, and Mark Easton; her step-mother, Mary Maddox, and step-brother, Kenny Maddox, of Amherst, VA; many cousins and friends.  Tami was preceded in death by her father, Fred Maddox.

Graduating from Edison High School in Alexandria, VA, in 1987, Tami went on to a successful career at the U. S. Department of Agriculture (PACA) in Washington, D.C., retiring in 2012 with 23 years of service.

Tami’s passions were music, swimming, arts and crafts, shopping, and spending time with her friends.  She especially enjoyed attending concerts and participating in Fairfax County and Virginia State Special Olympics swimming competitions where she earned numerous gold and silver medals.  Known for her love of arts and crafts, Tami’s personal creations of cards, pictures and jewelry are treasured by family and friends.  She was an active member of the Brain Injury Services ADAPT Clubhouse; participated in Fairfax County and Arlington County Therapeutic Recreation activities and social clubs; and was a beloved member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Alexandria, VA. 

Remembered for her sparkling personality, smile and laughter, Tami spread joy in the world.

 

Tami will be buried at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Alexandria, VA, in a private, graveside service.  A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.  If you would like to make a memorial gift in Tami’s name, please consider donating by check to Church of the Resurrection, P.
