Obituary for Steven J Kowal

STEVEN J. KOWAL BERLIN CENTER – Steven J. Kowal, 90, passed away at his home on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Born Sept. 11, 1926, in Youngstown, he was the son of Michael and Anna (Markovich) Kowal. Mr. Kowal was the owner/operator of S&K Trucking from 1970 until his retirement in 1991; he had previously worked for General Fireproofing from 1946 until 1970. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was an active member at the Highway Tabernacle, where he was the last surviving charter member; he served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, youth leader, as well as served as a deacon for 37 years. Survivors include his sons, Dale F. (Willie), Roger P. (Leslie), Wesley J., and Bruce E. (Debbie); nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret A. (Balog) in May of 2006; a son, Kenneth S.; brothers John, Joe, Demetrius and Paul; and sisters Mary George and Rose Olson.

Friends will be received at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m., where services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
