Obituary for Lorenzo Desantis

LORENZO DESANTIS“Together Again” CANFIELD - Lorenzo DeSantis, 100, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, Feb. 24, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 10, 1916, in Pacentro, Italy, the son of Joseph and Gaetana DeSantis. Lorenzo was a member of the Italian Army for 10 years, where he was a marksman, a paratrooper and and a former POW. He retired as a millwright from LTV Steel after 30 years of service. In his spare time, Lorenzo enjoyed cooking, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family whom he loved and cherished. His wife, the former Velia Angelilli, whom he married Jan. 26, 1938, passed away Nov. 4, 2008. Lorenzo will always be lovingly remembered by his two children, Flo (Paul) Harkey of Canfield and Frank (Michelle) DeSantis of Fairlawn; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother Quintino DeSantis; a daughter-in-law, Shirley DeSantis;and two sisters, Mary Carano and Flora DiMascio. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, John DeSantis; sister, Angela Marchionda; and brother Frank DeSantis. Friends may call at St. Michael Church, 300 N. Broad St. in Canfield from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Terrence Hazel celebrating. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of the Valley, especially caregivers Georgia, Jim, Brittany, and Fran, for the kind and compassionate care shown to Lorenzo.
