Lois Shook
COPLEY -- Lois Shook, a long-time resident of the Akron area, died Wednesday the 8th of February, 2017 at the Concordia at Sumner Care Facility.
Born in 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Hazel and James Brabson, she had one older brother, Wray, born in 1918. She moved to Cuyahoga Falls at age 12 and attended Cuyahoga Falls High School where she met Don Shook, the love of her life. After graduation they were married in 1945 and had two children, Don Jr. (1946), and David (1955).
She was the consummate helper and organizer, enabling her husband and family to accomplish a wide range of activities and projects. She and her husband were happiest while engaged in ''projects'', such as the three houses they built together. After Don retired from NASA in 1982, they enjoyed many motorhome trips together and were active in the Midwest Coachman Chapter of FMCA. They would go to FMCA rallies all around the country and visit the families of their two sons in Indiana and Utah.
She was active in the Pilgrim UCC at Broad Blvd. and Second St. in Cuyahoga Falls, serving on the Deaconate Board and helping to organize the Good Neighbors program for many years. Good Neighbors helped families in need with food and clothing and was a collaboration among several area churches.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Donald F. Shook; her two sons, Don Jr. (Nancy), and David (Carol); eight grandchildren, James, Robert (Gretchen), Jonathan (Debbie), David (Crucy), Michelle (Nick), Daniel, Jonathan, Abigail, and ten great-grandchildren, Ethan, Hannah, Abigail, Mason, Elena, Annie, Vivian, Carter, Kennedy and Margaret.
A Memorial Service honoring her life will be held on Sunday, March 26th, 2017 at the Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 130 Broad Blvd., in Cuyahoga Falls at 1:30. Her ashes are buried at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Cuyahoga Falls.
