Obituary for Martha Davies

MARTHA ''MICKEY'' A. DAVIES BOARDMAN - Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel, 65 N. Broad St., for Martha “Mickey” A. Davies, 72, who died Monday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. Martha, known as Mickey, was born March 14, 1944, in Salem, a daughter of the late Harold C. and Isabelle (Donahue) Cowher, and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from South High School in 1962, and worked as an administrative assistant in the counseling department at Youngstown State University for 15 years, retiring in 2007. She volunteered at the Crisis Center in Youngstown and the Neonatal Unit at St. Elizabeth Health Center. She also volunteered at Mill Creek Park, Fellowship Gardens where she was able to use her love of gardening. Mickey was a master gardener and also enjoyed taking care of the flowers at her condo association. She loved golfing at the short holes, skiing, biking and walking in Millcreek Park. Mickey also loved to paint and had painted many beautiful pictures. Mickey loved beaches and the sun and enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida. She just received her certificate for pool/spa operator. Mickey leaves her daughter, Heather Davies of Boardman; two sisters, Kathleen Windsor of Poland and Betty Amodio of Cincinnati; her companion, Dave Peterson of Akron; her former husband, William Davies; and many nieces, nephews and many close friends. Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel.
