Obituary for William J Colbert

U.S. Veteran BOARDMAN – William J. Colbert, 91, passed away at Mercy Health in Boardman late Sunday evening, December 18. William was born on April 6, 1925 in New Castle, PA, a son of John E. and Helen (Reinhart) Colbert. Bill proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS DeLong in the Pacific and Atlantic Theatre. He moved to North Lima in 1947. William married the former Alice J. Weaver on December 23, 1947, and they celebrated almost 69 years of marriage. Bill worked as an electrician, first at US Steel in the blast furnace for four years, then at United Engineering in Youngstown, from where he retired from in 1983 after 33 ½ years. He also was a member of many organizations, including American Legion Post 131, VFW in Washingtonville, Allen Lodge #276 of Columbiana, was a 22nd degree Scottish Rite, Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and the Shriners Club. He belonged to Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Bill leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife Alice, his daughter Sandra DeRhodes and her husband Jim of East Palestine, two grandsons, Douglas E. (Claudia) DeRhodes of Pawtucket, RI and Troy M. (Candace) DeRhodes of East Palestine, and three great-grandchildren, Sophia, Nathan, and Garrett. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 22 at 11:30 a.m. at Green Haven Memorial Gardens Chapel. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 21 from 6-8 p.m. at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, North Lima, and again from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, December 22 at the funeral home.
