Obituary for Samuel Nevi
SAMUEL R. NEVI CANFIELD – Samuel R. Nevi, 94, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at Brookdale Austintown after years of living with Alzheimer’s. He was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Youngstown, son to the late Albert and Venia (Lombardo) Nevi. Sam was a 1941 graduate of Chaney High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. During his service, Sam was released for a 30-day break, came home on Aug. 1, 1945, and married his fiancé, MaryLou McDonald, seven days later on Aug. 8, 1945. After Sam’s military service, he went on to work for Packard Electric as a tool and die maker for 18 years, retiring in 1985. Sam was an active member of the Western Reserve Baptist Church for many years, and he was a current member of the Boardman Baptist Church. Sam was also a member and past president of the Men’s Chatterbox Club of Youngstown. Sam enjoyed volunteering for Arc of Ohio North East in the developmental disabilities program. Sam will be remembered for the joy he found in taking pictures, tending to his vegetable garden and sharing the harvest with friends, and taking family trips to Disney World. Left to celebrate Sam’s memory is his loving wife of 71 years, MaryLou Nevi; his son, Raymond (Carolyn Piercy) Nevi of Plymouth, Mich.; his daughter, Susan Nevi of Canfield; his grandsons, David Nevi, Douglas (Julie) Nevi, and Jeffrey (Karen) Nevi; his granddaughter, Kristen Flora; his great-grandchildren, Blake, Emily, Amanda, Cora, and Leah; and many cousins. Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with funeral services to follow at 1 p.m. at the Boardman Baptist Church, 1207 Shields Road. Interment will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend a special thank you to MVI Hospice for their care and concern for the past four years and the staff at Brookdale of Austintown for their care and kindness that met every need.
