Together Again
Berley M. Maddox, 94, ended her struggle peacefully and went home to be with the Lord, on October 21, 2016 at her home in Akron, Ohio. Born in Mitchell County, Ga. in 1922, she was the last of sixteen siblings.
"Sweetheart" as she was affectionately known, was a nurse at St. Thomas Hospital retiring after 21 years of service. She accepted Christ as her Savior as a child and was active in church, where she taught Sunday School and worked in the food pantry. Berley was known for her green thumb. She and the love of her life, James (J.C), frequently received Beautification Awards from the City of Akron, for the amazing floral arrangements in their yard.
Though her health began to decline, she remained the stalwart matriarch of our family, and endeavored to keep alive the family''s history, through her many entertaining stories of our past. She was a source of inspiration for many, always encouraging others to pursue their education and to use their gifts to make the world better, and when her words couldn''t comfort or encourage others, a pan of her homemade rolls would always do the trick.
Mrs. Maddox was welcomed into heaven, by her beloved husband, "J.C."; son, Kerry; parents, Nathaniel and Sarah Sanders; and her siblings and other family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted daughter and son, GinaKaye of Akron, and Rev. Ken E. Maddox of Solon, Ohio; grandchildren, Geoffrey L. Proctor, Morning S. and August A. Maddox; and great-grandson, Maddox J. (Maddy) Proctor; best friends, Dorothy, Edna, and Frances; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Friends may call on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Mt. Baptist Church, 327 Cuyahoga St., Akron, OH 44310. Service will immediately follow. Internment will take place at Mount Peace Cemetery on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 11 a.m. Procession will form at 504 N. Hawkins Ave. Pastor Robert Golson and Rev. Kenneth Maddox officiating.
