Obituary for J. David Spice

J. David Spice J. David Spice, 76, passed away peacefully at home on October 22, 2016. He was born in Barberton to the late Dwight and Frances (Ozbolt) and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He lived in Wadsworth for most of his life before spending the last eight years in Cuyahoga Falls. Dave worked as an Editor for the Barberton Herald and The Suburbanite, and he covered the Barberton and Norton city council meetings for the Akron Beacon Journal for many years. Most recently, he worked as a mower at Barberton Brookside Country Club, for the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and for Thomas Limousine. Dave was active in the community as a member of the Kiwanis and the Wadsworth Footlighters, and he served as a lector at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was also an avid Cleveland Indians fan! He is survived by his wife, Vicki; sisters, Donna Jo (Mickey) Drummond and Karen (George) Halliwell; children, David (Anne), Barbara (Ron) Brooks, Paul (Dee), Jennifer (Paul) Richardson, Heather (Scott) Gochenour and Andrew (Stacey); stepdaughter, Heather (Philip) Labut; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home & Chapel, 760 E. Market St. A mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, October 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1761 Second St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, with Fr. McCarthy officiating. Interment at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park.
