Obituary for Jesusa R. Vergara

Jesusa was born on January 7, 1929 to parents Proceso Rojas Rodenas and Leonora Lorico Rodenas in Manila, Philippines.  Her childhood years were spent with 5 other siblings (Danny, Pacita, Connie, Remedios, and Teresita).  She attended college in Manila at the University of Santo Tomas, graduated cum laude with a degree in Education, Major in History, Minor in Psychology.

While pursuing her masters, she met Pedro (Pete) Vergara who was enamored with Jesusa's demure and old-fashioned ways.  He later courted Jesusa.  After a conservative courtship, they got married on December 8, 1948.  They were blessed with 3 children, Alfred, Linda and Jaime.

She taught high school for 20 years, and then moved on to work for the Department of Foreign Affairs, Manila.  She also taught Rizal studies at the University of the East for a few years.  In 1971, she and her husband, Pedro (Pete) decided to move their family to California.  She transitioned her career from the educational sector to the corporate sector.  She worked for Pacific Bell's, (aka AT&T) Engineering Department as an Engineering Associate and eventually retired after 10 years of service.

Jesusa's legacy is love of family, ensuring that they remain cohesive and that they don't lose sight of all the teachings and values that she imparted to them as a mother and grandmother.  She taught her family to live simply; to live with integrity, dignity and honesty; to work hard; to save for a rainy day; to practice humility; to have a good and grateful heart, and to forgive.  Many remember Jesusa for her keen sense of humor as she was a comedienne in her own way.

Her journey in this world concluded on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 as she joined her Creator in Heaven, her new home for eternal life.
