Obituary for Helen Joseph
HELEN L. JOSEPH
NORFOLK, VA. - Helen L. Joseph was born Aug. 10, 1927, and died on Sept. 22, 2016, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Youngstown, to Arthur and Hilda Anderson.
She was a 1946 graduate of South High School.
She met her husband, Wilbur Tillery, the father of her three children, and was married to him for 14 years before his passing.
In 1963, she married Earl Young Jr., who was a great father and provider.
In 1979, she married Jim Joseph, who was the love of her life. They traveled extensively, were avid golfers, and retired in Florida where Jim passed away in 2009.
Her companion of the last four years was Bill Harrison, who died Sept. 9, 2016.
She is survived by her sister, Gloria Gibbs and brother Alan (Joan) Anderson, who reside in Ohio. She leaves behind three children, Terry (Nancy) Tillery of Knotts Island, N.C., Rhonda (Gary) McLemore and John (Becky) Tillery, all of Chesapeake, Va.
She had nine grandchildren, Todd (Sarah) Tillery, Kristen (Kevin) Bernard, Courtney Tillery Compton, Melissa Otwell, Miranda McLemore, Taylor (Jeb) Britt, Logan Tillery, Morgan Tillery, and Bailey Tillery. She also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who treasured family time and continually sacrificed for them. She will be missed by so many, however, her legacy lives on.
The family will be having a memorial service in Canfield on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m. at Green Haven Memorial Gardens, with a lunch following at The Manor at 3104 S. Canfield-Niles Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Fund in her memory, because of her love for children
