Obituary for Mary Potter Durant


Mary Potter Durant, wife for 72 years of Thomas E. Durant, passed away on Sept. 17 in Sun City Center, FL. She was born Jan. 23, 1926 in Derby, daughter of the late Herbert & Stella Atkinson Potter. She lived in Ansonia and Woodbridge, Ct, moved to Windham, NH in 1986 and then to Sun City Center in 2012. She worked as a librarian for the Ansonia Public Library and served on the Board of Trustees of the Nesmith Library in Windham. Mary was a member of the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs. In NH, she supported of Veterans’ Affairs, chaired the Grounds Beautification Project at the Manchester, NH VAMC, and was instrumental in the establishment of NH’s first Lilac Arboretum at the VAMC. Family and friends will miss Mary’s baking, cooking, love and storytelling. In addition to her husband, she leaves her daughter Elizabeth Korn & husband Clifford of Sun City Center, FL, 2 grandsons, Gregory Korn & wife Lola of Goffstown, NH and Douglas Korn & wife Stacy of Franklin, TN, her 4 great­grandchildren, Brandon, Alison, Thomas & Arielle, and several nieces, nephews & cousins. She is predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth, and brothers, William, Edward, and Herbert. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 56 South Cliff St., Ansonia. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, Ansonia or St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 90 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
