On Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, God called the beautiful soul of Symone Reneé McKinney home to eternal rest. In keeping with Symone’s loving and generous spirit, her gift of organ donation will help give life to someone else. Symone was born on June 16, 1994, in Youngstown, a daughter of Ronald and Shari (Smith) McKinney. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at a young age at the Rising Star Baptist Church, where she was active in the children’s choir, as a youth usher, a youth assistant in the nursery, a member of the Drama Ministry, and as a dancer in the Jes-Us II dance ministry. She had a bright and beautiful smile, a big heart, and a deeply sensitive soul. She was diagnosed with Type I Juvenile Diabetes at age 10, and had struggled with her health issues for the past year. She was a 2012 graduate of Youngstown Early College, and had attended Youngstown State University. She had planned to return to school in the fall to continue working to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. Symone had worked a number of jobs, including Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, CVS, H&M Clothing Store, Sam’s Club and WIS International. She enjoyed anime, Betty Boop, and Harley Quinn and especially loved children and babies.
She will be deeply missed by her parents; her brother, Aaron McKinney; and her grandparents, Ambrose Smith Sr. and Bernice McKinney, all of Youngstown; her aunts and uncles, Sampson and Sherry Yirenkyi of Clayton, who were also her godparents, Ambrose Smith Jr. of Fort Mill, S.C., Kenneth McKinney of Trotwood, Jeffrey McKinney of Youngstown, and Michael and Tanesha McKinney of Jacksonville, Fla.; her goddaughters, Na’Tyce Byers of Austintown and Melanie Gilmore-Williams, who was due to arrive on the day of Symone’s death; numerous cousins and other family members and friends; and a very special friend, Malcolm Parker.
