Obituary for Augusta Douglas Coleman

Augusta Coleman, age 104 of New Haven, beloved wife of the late Israel Coleman died peacefully on August 23, 2016 at the Apple Rehab Health Care Center of West Haven. Born in Society Hill, SC on November 24, 1911, she was the daughter of the late William and Lilly Douglas. She was a 1925 graduate of Ansonia High School, a graduate of Palmer Method Business School, and worked as a certified hospital dietician. Mrs. Coleman was a lifelong and the oldest member of Macedonia Baptist Church of Ansonia where she served as the President of Deaconess Board, the Usher Board, taught Sunday school, as well as volunteered on many church committees and activities over the years. She was a talented organist and enjoyed sewing and reciting poetry. Together with her husband, she traveled to Florida for many winterseasons where they became avid fishermen. She is survived by her devoted brothers, Irving Douglas and his wife, Florence of West Haven, and Earl Douglas of CA; sister­in­law, Mary Douglas of GA; as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews who she loved dearly. In addition to her husband Israel, she was predeceased by brothers, Hamlet, Dann, Mike, James Edward, Henry, Harold, and George Douglas and a sister, Florence Gattison. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at 10:00 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, CT. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.
