Obituary for Colleen Rae Pew

COLLEEN ''COKE'' RAE PEW YOUNGSTOWN – Colleen “Coke” Rae Pew, 85, passed away on Aug. 7, 2016, with the same grace in which she lived her life, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Akron on July 21, 1931, to the late Alfred and Nina (Miracle) Wilson. Colleen moved to the Youngstown area when she was about three years old, and had lived her remaining years here. She graduated from South High School in 1950, and immediately went to work at the main plant of Isaly’s Dairy, where she was employed until their closing. She worked at General Electric for a short period of time, and then went to work at South Side Hospital as an aide. Colleen married her husband of 62 years, W. James Pew, on Nov. 6, 1954. Colleen quit working in order to raise her family, but once they were old enough, she went back to work for the Youngstown Board of Education. She worked nine plus years at Cleveland Elementary School, as a librarian aide. She also helped set up four other school libraries in the area. Friends will remember her as a caring, compassionate, and a very spiritual woman. Colleen loved to read, watch television, and travel. Some of the places she traveled to were, Florida, California, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. She was a member of the Heritage Presbyterian Church in Poland. To her family, Colleen will be remembered as a wonderful wife, devoted mother, and a loving and caring grandmother. She cherished her family right up until the moment that the good Lord decided to call her home. She is survived by her husband, W. James Pew; daughters Cheryl Clowser of Boardman and Dianne (John) Sanders of Poland; grandchildren James Pew, Jennifer Razo, Burton (Stacey) Clowser, Traci (Mark) Moody and Leesa (Frank) Webber; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Juanita Dieter; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Witherstine. Friends will be received at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, today from 6 to 8 p.m. where services will be held on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any memorial contributions to be made to Senior Independence Home Health & Hospice of Canfield.
