Obituary for Sophie R Sitch

Sophia Roth Sitch July 15, 1923 - July 13, 2016 Sophia "Sophie" Roth Sitch, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Sophie was born July 15, 1923 in Transylvania, Romania and migrated to Austintown as an infant with her parents, the late Michael and Katherine (Johrendt) Roth. She was a 1942 graduate of Fitch High School and was a lifelong area resident; she was a homemaker and also worked in retail for McKelveys, Woolworths and Grants, as well as several area restaurants; she worked as a packer and inspector for International Paper Company in Austintown for 33 years. She attended YSU''s Adult Education program and graduated from MCCTC with certification as a home nurse assistant serving as a Home Healthcare provider for nearly 30 years until her retirement in 2012 at the age of 88. She was a member of the Saxon Club and the Evergreen Seventh-day Adventist Church in Boardman. Sophie enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii, and took several cruises. Dear to her, was her family and friends, her Christian faith and health. Sophie was a "natural" when it came to health since she never took any medications prior to a most recent illness, and was proud of this fact. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Luke Sitch whom she married on August 22, 1942, and who passed away on February 10, 1973; grandson David Drumheller on June 20, 2016; a half-sister Katherine Fleisher and a half-brother Michael Roth. She leaves two daughters Kathleen M. (Bert) Drumheller of Woodbridge, VA, and Karen E. (Pete) Costello of Sioux Falls, SD; two sons John M. (Dorothy) Sitch of Millington, TN and Mark A. (Lori) Sitch of Poland; four grandchildren: Mark "Luke", Blake A., Bret A. Sitch, and Kimberly A. (Sitch) MacLennan; four great grandchildren: Lori Nicole Sitch, Langston MacLennan , Serenity and Brielle Drumheller, one great great grand daughter Alana Vannburan; several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel on Sunday, from 3-5PM, where services will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 at 10:00AM with Pastors Ted Bartter and Andrew Clark officiating. Burial will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Shepherd of the Valley for their loving care and support they provided to Sophie.
