Obituary for Frederick M. Mong

Frederick Mong SILVER LAKE -- Frederick Mong, 82, passed away peacefully after a short illness January 10, 2016. Born in Franklin, Pa., he lived in the Stow/Cuyahoga Falls area for over 50 years. Fred graduated from Franklin High School, received his BS in Chemistry from Grove City College and a Masters in Analytical Chemistry from Michigan State. He retired in 1998 as a chemist from Gencorp with over 20 years of service. Fred was a member of the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge. He was a long time volunteer with Western Reserve Hospital, a member of the Silver Lake-Stow Garden Club, an avid hiker, enjoyed watching sports, golfing, fishing, and loved his cats. Fred had a love for art and developed an interest and talent for painting. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally; parents, Frank and Minnie; and sisters, Lois and Dorothy. Fred is survived by daughter, Sharon (Greg) O''Neill of Texas; son, Steven F. (Jodi) Mong of Akron; grandchildren, Colleen, Kelly, Shannon, and Sean; brother-in-law, Edward Schenck of Uniontown; and several nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews. Calling hours will be 2 until 4 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at The Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle) and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2016 at The First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, 85 Heritage Dr., in Tallmadge, with Rev. Dr. John Schluep officiating. Inurnment will be at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to NORD, www.rarediseases.org, National Organization for Rare Disorders, to a restricted research fund - Myelofibrosis.
