Obituary for William R. Raybuck

William "Bill" R. Raybuck PARKERSBURG, W. Va. -- William "Bill" R. Raybuck, of Akron, OH died peacefully in Parkersburg, WV on June 8 at the age of 79. Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Raybuck of Parkersburg, WV; children: David (Lori) Raybuck of Columbus, OH, Craig (DeDe) Raybuck of Leawood, KS, and Karen (Jim) Hughes of Parkersburg, WV; sibling, Susan Raybuck of San Diego, CA; and six grandchildren, Cassie (Raybuck) Herman, Will Raybuck, Sam Raybuck, Peyton Hughes, Jack Raybuck, and Max Hughes. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Freeman Raybuck and Alice Mae Raybuck, and his brother George. Bill was born on June 28, 1936, in Akron, OH. Bill graduated from Akron Kenmore H.S. in 1954 excelling in Football, Baseball, and Basketball. Bill was an All-District Basketball player in 1954, while leading the district in scoring. He earned a Basketball scholarship to Kent State University, playing for four years and graduating with a B.S. in Education in 1958. He married Barbara Ziak, his college sweetheart in 1958. Upon graduation, he embarked on a 30-year career in education. He taught History, coached Boys Basketball, and served most of his career as a High School Principal. He worked at both Austintown Fitch H.S. and Cuyahoga Falls H.S., retiring as a Principal in 1988. Bill was a member of the U.S. Army and earned advanced degrees in the field of education: Master of Science, 1969, and Education Specialist, 1977. Upon retirement, Bill worked for 20 years at both Brookledge and Valley View golf courses. In addition to his career, Bill served as President of the Akron Touchdown Club, was a member of the Varsity K Club, and served as Senior Warden in his church. Bill was also a member of the Kent State University Alumni Association. He loved spending time with his family, travel, watching Jeopardy, and the camaraderie of his golf and poker groups. Friends may call 2 hours prior to a 12 p.m. funeral service on Monday June 13, 2016 at the Clifford Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH, 44221.
