She grew up in Evansville, Indiana, moving to Boston, Mass. shortly after graduating from Benjamin Bosse High School. She worked for the Christian Science Publishing Society where she met and married Peter Vanderpool. They lived in a variety of cities before settling in Willoughby in 1967. Martha stayed at home to raise her three children, returning to work after she and Peter went their separate ways. Martha worked at Nupro Company in Willoughby until her retirement. She then dedicated much of her time and energy to running the Christian Science Reading Room in downtown Willoughby. As an active member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Martha particularly enjoyed teaching Sunday school. She has served the church in many other capacities, most recently as Chair of the Board of Trustees. Martha was known for her kindness and generosity. Not as well-known was her talent for drawing and painting. She also enjoyed music, particularly jazz. Her love of animals and nature was a trait she passed along to her children. Martha enjoyed watching movies with friends, sharing big family meals, and she retains her unofficial title as the Queen of Scrabble. Martha is survived by her son, Mark (Elizabeth) Vanderpool of Beaufort, S.C., and daughter, Beth (Ronald) Bracale of Conneaut; son-in-law, Julius Williams; brothers Robert (Linda) Geary of Henderson, Ky. and Jerry (Sue) Biddle of Boonville, Ind.; grandsons Charles Triplett, Aaron Triplett, and Evan Williams; and six great-grandchildren.
