Obituary for Winifred A. Langa

Winifred Ann Langa, 89 of Willoughby, died Saturday May 14, 2016 at Symphony of Mentor (formerly Kemper House), the last 6 years of her life were spent as a resident there. She was born February 26, 1927 in Cleveland. Winnie was a homemaker. She was always a devoted wife and mother, and always active and happy. She was an excellent seamstress and designed and sewed much of her own clothing as well as that of her children. She had a passion for outdoors and was an accomplished downhill skier. She skied almost all over the U.S., as well as Kitzbuhel and Innsbruk in Austria. Ice skating was a weekly year around activity, and she was recognized as "One of the Best" in the greater Cleveland area. She always tried to avoid the limelight, but her dancing grace and ability always drew appreciative attention. Square dancing with the Broken Wheel Squares, and the Buckeye Squares was another of her favorites. Summertime found her on the golf course, playing with LLegs and the St. Denis Tuesday ladies league, for which she served as President for a year or two. In 1995 she was named Willoughby Senior Citizen of the year. She had a special place in her heart for The Country Grass Band (of which her husband was a member) and the extended family of it followers. Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Edward J. Langa; children, Dale A. (Betty) Langa of Litchfield, NH, Darlene A. Langa of Olympia, WA and Doreen A. Langa of Willoughby; and sister, Marguerite Gallagher of Williamsburg, VA. Preceding Winnie in death are her parents, Harold and Anna Fitzpatrick; and siblings, Irene Amirault, Gail Lanning and Vaugh Marie Fyffe.
